To buy or not to buy, that is the question when shopping on DHGate. One thing is for sure, that whatever you are buying, you must do your research before hand. Thousands of people, including myself, have seen what they thought was a bargain on DHGate, and it’s turned out to be far from it.

So, what should you look for in a product to buy from DHGate? I’ll start of by saying, DO NOT choose to buy branded electronics. From branded, I mean anything from Skull Candy and Sennheiser, to Microsoft and Adobe. Any product from a corporation that has a high street brand, stay well clear from. Even though these will be listed on DHGate (having said that, they have vastly cleaned up their marketplace from counterfeits), they will all be counterfeit. Big brands have specific contracts written up with their Chinese manufacturers that specify they may only produce products for that company. There are no other “sales channels” or “factory seconds” – and if there are – such products will simply be destroyed by the factory. So when you are told that the product you want to buy is a factory run off – they are lying. There is no such thing.

What you can purchase, is mimics of branded items – or counterfeits. If these carry the brand name of logo of the original company, then these will be illegal. However, if they are simply modelled on the original, and stated as an unbranded product, these will be safe to buy. And in fact, there is a lot of money to be made in unbranded electronics. For example, unbranded earphones for iPods sell very well, especially if they look like the original. You can usually pick these up for less than $2 each, and  most sell for around £4 each on eBay. Other choices include unbranded MP3 and MP4 players, GPS systems, and music equipment.

Other items to buy are gadgets. There are many unbranded gadgets for sale om DHGate including remote control cards, robotic toys, and plush toys. Again, these will be dirt cheap, and give you a wide range of products to offer for sale in this little niche.

Then there are smaller items, such as novelty lighters, small knives, and accessories such as magnets and keyrings. All you can snap up for less than $0.50, and sell for up to £2 each. Sell up to 100 of these per day, and you can make a nice little profit from these.

Items to stay away from

Here are a list of prime items to stay away from, otherwise you WILL be disappointed:

- Games consoles
- TV’s
- Laptops and computers
- DVDs
- Software
- Branded earphones
- Branded memory cards
- Branded sports equipment
- Well – anything branded really – they don’t exist on DHGate in any other form that counterfeit.
