Hi everyone, does any one know of any nice, large, Australian mantid species.I could well be going there in a few months and would like to be fully armed, so to speak, as to what there are and were to find e'm to photograph etc.Any info would be better than what i've got.

thanx Bohan.

I believe the Hierodula Mujuscasa is from Oz, but that is the only species I aware of. Although, if you go to Queensland, you can find some Extatosoma, and bring those back :D I would love to see some wild caught specimens.
Of course, my address is always open to post ;)

Hi Ian, yeah i've heard of that one, i know of Archmantis latistyla & monstrousa and a large purple winged Tenodera sp [australasis??] but i dont know the areas they come from, or indeed the area we're going [probably queensland area] i particularily would like to find out about a mantis i read about years ago called Heirodula wernerii, apparently, from what i read, it is supposed to prefer larger foods eg vertibrates like treefrogs, gecko's etc not that i could bring myself to feed these or similar items to them, but i would be interested in seeing all these different types of mantis wernerii especially, just trying to gather info really.

thanx again Bohan,
