Giant Thorny Stick insect - Trachyaretaon bruekneri

Giant Thorny Stick insect - Trachyaretaon bruekneri. Caresheet and breeding information

Here is a phasmid resource, Care sheet (Trachyaretaon bruekneri), courtesy of Chris Pull:

PSG255 Trachyaretaon bruekneri

Common name: Giant Thorny S/I

Subfamily: Obriminae

Origin: Philippines

Adult size: Females: 125mm Males: 75mm

Food plants: Bramble

Description:

Absolutely stunning as nymphs! As adults they are a brick-red color, with occasionally variation into greens and grays. Long antennae. Quite bulky.

Comment:

Keep humid, and provide females with a place to lay ova, i.e. a pot of peat or similar. Eggs hatch in about 6 months. Males protective over females, and will fight for the biggest ones, and the winner will ride around on top of *he’s* lady all he’s life, until death do them part. I can’t think of much to say, these are really easy to keep and a good beginner species. Also good for children as they are strong and bulky, but not too large to scare the kid.

Thanks Chris!
