Hoplocoryphella ootheca hatching
This morning I had a Hoplocoryphella sp. ootheca hatch. These are really strange looking “bubble” ootheca, which are translucent, seemingly hollow, with a small egg sack in the middle.
The nymphs emerged from the little “seam” on the top, and hatched around 80 nymphs – a surprising amount for such a small ootheca!
The nymphs were very small, and many struggled to eat small fruit flies (D. melanogaster).
Although for the feisty few, there were more than happy to share…
